Artist Statement

Whether it is a separation from your loved ones, nature’s unforeseen wrath, or the constant changes surrounding us, our responses to these events affect us in the most unexpected ways.   In experiencing these events—particularly in our attempts to influence and control them--one finds passion, dreams, joy, anger, disappointment and sorrow. Expressing these emotions on canvas is irresistible to me—it’s why I paint. As Georgia O’Keefe said: “I found I could say things with colors that I couldn’t say in any other way, things that I had no words for”.

I love the challenge, freedom and spontaneity of abstract painting--even as countless decisions are rapidly made about composition rules, colors and values. Music and Nature’s beauty also have a profound influence on my paintings. As I paint, memories and emotions are revealed, transformed into shapes, colors, marks and lines. Even though the result is an intense personal journey, the viewer is encouraged to react to, interpret, and experience what is on the canvas in his or her own way.
